I chose to become an Osteopathic doctor (D.O.) because I believe that caring for a person requires understanding the anatomy, the illness and overall well-being of the patient as a person. I believe in working alongside my patients to develop an individualized treatment plan that address the mind, spirit and the body. Having been trained in both Osteopathic and Allopathic (M.D.) facilities, I have learned to combine the best of both cultures in helping my patients. I am able to use my manual therapy skills to diagnose pathologies and to provide treatments.
Since I was selected as one of the six teaching fellows during medical school, I love explaining and sharing my knowledge with patients and their families. My osteopathic education was fortified with anatomy and lessons about compassion it naturally led me to the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. As a physiatrist, who is a doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation, I am able to diagnose various musculoskeletal disorders and offer noninvasive treatment alternatives to my patients. Upon completion of my Stanford residency as the chief resident during my final year, I decided to further enhance my knowledge with an anesthesia pain medicine fellowship at University of Iowa. There, I was able to strengthen my knowledge and supplement additional treatment option into my “tool box.”
With every treatment option there is often a down side, or an adverse effect. I feel that it is also my responsibility to help my patients navigate those through those difficulties as they are going through the rehabilitation process. Armed with comprehensive treatment knowledge and options, from manual therapies to fluoroscopic guided interventional procedures, I feel that I am better prepared to support my patients with a complete rehabilitation program.
My goal as a physician is to offer my patients the treatment regimen that works towards the maximal improvement of their functional, psychological and spiritual health so that they can continue doing the things they love to do.
