Barbara Knitter5 StarI've been volunteering at the San Jose Women's Center for the last seven years. I'm humbled by the work God is doing within this incredible organization. I'm usually there twice a month and able to meet their students and work with the staff. In doing so, I've been able to get to know many of them. They've shared heart breaking stories of the bad habits which have nearly destroyed their lives. However, if they can survive the first few months (the hardest part of the program!) their spiritual souls are revived and they begin to live in hope with a new perspective that transforms their minds to overcome the addictions which have chained them. It's hard to explain, but each time I visit and get an update from them, I can see the power of God at work. It's what keeps bringing me back to serve so I can witness the miracles and encourage these ladies not to give up. If they can hang in there, Teen Challenge will teach them not only what they need to survive, but to thrive in a life after addiction. Every year I return to their annual Galas and am reunited with former students who update me on their successes and how grateful they are for staying the course and trusting God through the process. Our Lord has rewarded them, and often times they tell me that they thought they knew who God was when they entered, but during the course of the program they truly find Him and their life hasn't been the same since! I have no idea how the staff has the capacity to love, extend grace, share their wisdom, and encourage so many women with all that happens at this center; but it's inspiring to know that they can do it with the help of God. When I come across difficult situations in my own life, I just remember the tough love and grace of God from the Teen Challenge staff members and I try emulate the same with the people I encounter. Life in the Center isn't easy, but the year commitment to the program is worth it. I've witnessed it on a regular basis and I thank God this program exists to help those overcoming addictions, and for those of us who want to volunteer and make the world a better place. It takes faith and discipline to succeed, but Teen Challenge has the love and patience to see you through. I highly recommend this organization over many of the other rehab places who have a far less success rate.Thursday 7th November 2024
Chelsie Theodore5 StarThere isn't a day that goes by that i don't either think about, tell of my experience or thank God for allowing myself the restoration in my life that I have today. I was a student with TEEN CHALLENGE in 2019 and am beyond proud to say that I am 5 years sober today and have the best and brightest life because of my experience in the program. If you are ready to make the change for yourself and your family, this is the place for you. Please find strength in yourself and/or the ones you love and make the change today and receive the help they offer with open arms and open hearts. ❤️Sunday 10th November 2024
September Blackburn1 StarPersonally I had an awful experience. It resulted in me being left on the sidewalk in front of the house with no way to call anyone and nowhere to go in a town 3 hours from home. My phone was dead and I wasn't allowed to charge it until a couple hours after I’d been left on the sidewalk in front of the house to fend for myself. With no money left, and nobody to call for help anywhere nearby I walked to the quick stop and asked a stranger for help. Thankfully he bought me a train ticket home and helped me pick up my years worth of belongings I’d brought with me to use while I’d be in rehab here for the next 12-18 months if all had gone as promised by my intake specialist. In no way was the program I signed up for the program I entered. All of the things I was told could and would happen in fact were not available like described. The description and examples of family reunification I was given while inquiring about the program were not accurate once I spoke directly to the people who run this house. The information you receive from your intake specialist doesn’t match up to the different rules for each house. I was so disappointed to learn the restrictions were directly going to affect my ability to stay here. I was asked to sign over any right to hold teen challenge liable
For mine or my kids lives if for any reason we were wronged, or hurt, or anything that may happen to us while in the program Teen Challenge couldn’t be held responsible because I’d be signing a contract saying I gave up That right. As you can imagine I wouldn’t sign that contract! They are absolutely not a good example of what a Christian is or is about. They treated me very poorly from the moment I advocated for myself about the things I’d been told would be happening as simple as a phone call I was told I’d be able
To make to my fiancé who was in the men’s program waiting to hear from me that I’d made it here safely was denied. I was told to pack my things before they’d give me my phone to make that call which they returned to me not charged to even make a call for help once I was put on the sidewalk.Thursday 12th September 2024
Vanessa Mendoza5 StarAlum Rock Women and Children's center was everything I didn't know I needed. The love and support that I received from the staff was by far life changing. I would recommend Alum Rock not only to women who struggle with addiction, but to anyone that needs to bring balance back in there life.Wednesday 6th November 2024
Mysti Day1 StarIf you don’t want to relapse or have the person you love relapse on drugs DO NOT GO TO THIS REHAB. I came here to get better and all I experienced is abunch of women who power trip and abuse their power. Firstly if you get any money send to you or general assistance ssi or anything they take 85% of it. That is straight greed at its finest. I tried to care take their dying garden and instead of allowing me do something that soothes my soul they prevented me from doing that, they prevented me from making myself tea to help my body. I also was asked by girls coming down on heavy medication to help them regularly because I know plants and they refused.
I tried giving them another chance after they kicked me out on the streets of San Jose in the middle of the night, cuz the director and supervisor apologized since they found out I was not lying about a situation where a women threatened to stab me and instead of actually making it right they were meaner to me than before. So mean on purpose that I chose to leave so it wasn’t on them legally. I would NEVER send anyone here and a lot of women in the program want this place shut down. They are detoxing women without nurses on staff which is illegal as well as made me sign a contract saying I basically couldn’t tell any other women about what happened to me cuz they tried to cover it up. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this hell hole.Friday 25th October 2024
